👟A few weeks ago I told you about an ongoing walking competition that was happening at Benzinger Park. Well, good news, because a new — indoor — one has been organized for the winter, this time at the St. Marys Area High School. MOVIN’ FOR MILES WALKING CLUB: WINTER EDITION is a program to incentivize you for getting your steps in: you can walk anytime and then log your miles for a chance to win prizes. The program runs November 1 through March 31. You can register here.
🍺 Are you a home brewer or consider yourself to be a beer aficionado? You might want to consider joining up with the Elk County Brewers at their MONTHLY BREW CLUB MEETING on Thursday, October 24 at 6 PM. You can bring some of your own or samples of your favorite craft beer. If you don’t have anything to share, that's ok - come anyway and see what everyone else is sharing! — 📍1237 Million Dollar Hwy, Kersey
🎃 It might not look like there is a lot going on this week, but that’s not the case! — a lot of the events going on this week are just in another issue. Let me explain…
I published a special SPOOKY edition this past Thursday to highlight all of the best Halloween events that are coming up this week (there are so many, I decided to keep them separate from the main issue!) It’s in your inbox now or you can read it here. I’ll be publishing Vol. 2 this Thursday so be on the lookout for that - I’ll send it out at 11 AM.
☕️ Hello, friend! So, I have to ask—are you still with me? Or have I accidentally created a weird diary where I talk about my coffee obsession to literally no one? (You can read my past confessions here.) Either way, I’m having fun, and for those who’ve shown me some love— thank you!
Some updates from this past week:
☕️ The saga of the lone espresso glass: My husband and I take turns using it. I drink mine first thing at 5 AM, and about an hour later, I pass it off to him for his morning boost.
☕️ The espresso machine lives another week: No more smoke (so far)! 🎉
☕️ A caffeine crisis averted: We buy oversized bags of Starbucks coffee from Sam’s Club every six months when they’re on sale ($5 off!). We stock up like pros, but somehow… we ran out of coffee this week. 😱 Luckily, we had some espresso roast on hand, which we ground finer to get by for a few days. Crisis managed!
☕️ What’s the verdict on "Coffee with Kathleen"? |
If you’ve enjoyed these little updates and feel like fueling my next cup, you can buy me a coffee here. No pressure—just a little extra love if you’re feeling generous!

🐷 📖 BOOKS IN THE BARN — a fun time for your kiddos to read to barn animals — is back this month at Big Maple Farm on Sunday, October 20 at 5 PM-7 PM. It’s a chance for you to get your kiddos to read (and enjoy what they are reading) without the social pressure of doing it in front of peers (October is National Book Month so bring your favorite book along to read it to the animals). Your kids will be so excited to be hanging out with a bunch of cute barn animals, they won’t even notice that they’re reading . There will also be a STEM project to work on (and snacks!) The cost is $5 per child.

📖 The St. Marys Public Library is hosting two different activities this week that are a part of their STEAM hub:
🪵 Rowan Crisp, the Education and Outreach Administrator of the Lumber Heritage Region, will be giving a talk on Wednesday, October 23 from 3:30-5:00 PM. He will also be bringing some interesting items from the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum.
🔬🎭 There will be a FAMILY STEAM HUB DAY on Friday, October 25 from 10:30 AM-1:30 PM. Join in for some family fun with crafts and experiments!
Both activities are geared more towards middle school kids, but they are open to anyone who would like to attend.

🎃🎨 The Boys & Girls Club of St. Marys invites any child K-12 to PAINT A PUMPKIN on Thursday, October 24 from 5-7 PM. There is no cost to attend.
