In last week’s issue, I shared the borderline problematic relationship that I have with coffee and the important role that it plays in helping me publish this newsletter. You can read my first post here.
Many of you seemed to enjoy hearing about it so I thought, Why not overshare a little bit more about this seemingly unimportant, but essential aspect of my life?
Nine months ago, my husband bought us 8 espresso glasses on Amazon. Why two people need eight (?!) espresso glasses, I’ll never know. Maybe he was preparing for an espresso-tasting party we never threw. But there we were, fully stocked like coffee aficionados. Sadly, this past week, I broke the 7th glass. Now, we’re down to just one—sharing it like a treasured relic. To add to the drama, our trusty Nespresso machine decided to billow smoke at 5 AM Thursday morning. You could say I’m a little concerned for our caffeine future. How will I make my espresso shots without that machine? And what happens if this last glass breaks?
At this rate, I might need more than just a cup of coffee from you all. Does Amazon have a ‘coffee survival’ registry?

I have a confession to make: This newsletter takes me about 15-20 hours to create. In coffee math, that equates to about 7.5 pots of brewed coffee and 14 Nespresso pods. And this is just the coffee I drink while I’m writing. I also have a cup after my kids go to sleep just to stay awake long enough to watch an episode of American Horror Story (I’m watching the new one with Kim Kardashian — it’s decent: I’d give it 3.5/5 stars, so far) before I fall asleep on the couch, just to wake up at 5 AM and start the cycle all over again. It’s a problem, but one I’m willing to live with. I’m not complaining — I love every minute of it!
I even love the act of making a cup of coffee. Sometimes I catch myself wanting to brew one just for the simple joy of it. I hope I’m not the only one who feels this way — do I need to get help?
I bond with people over coffee, which is why I’d love to share a coffee with you this week in spirit! Although I can’t meet with all of you, your support means the world to me.
If this newsletter has helped you discover something fun to do or made your week a little brighter, consider buying me a coffee! Your support not only fuels my coffee habit but also ensures that What's Up Elk continues to bring you the best local events and Elk County happenings.
