Good morning, 🫎 Neighbor!
This is What’s Up Elk, the weekly dose of feel-good energy you didn’t even know you needed.
In today’s newsletter:
🎄 It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas?
🪶 Do It For The Birds
👻 A Spooky-Edition Reminder
Let’s get to it.

P.S. Just a side note: when you see something highlighted and underlined in blue, make sure to click on it if you’re interested. These are links and will give you more information about the event.
🧑🎨 Are you an artist who might be interested in teaching what you know to others in your community? You should apply to be an Arts in Education Teaching Artist through The Elk County Council on the Arts where you’ll have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the education and cultural enrichment of students in our region. More information about the program can be found here.
🪶 Celebrate the Uplands at the 2024 Upland Bird Hunt Grand Banquet on Saturday, November 9 at The Red Fern. The is an evening of write-in auctions, raffles, one-of-a-kind items, and most importantly, raising a glass and raising funds for our state bird, the ruffed grouse. The evening starts at 5 PM with Social Hour and Raffles (a 1927 A.H. Fox Sterlingworth 16-Gauge Shotgun is up for grabs) with dinner following at 6:30 PM. Tickets — which can be bought here — are $50.

🧘🎅 Someone is bound to get annoyed at me for including Christmas-themed events already, but — trust me — this is necessary because I can guarantee you that these two classes by Julie Lang will get booked up fast.
She’s offering two 4-week Christmas Yoga series:
Both of them will start on Monday, December 2. Pre-registration is required.

🎃 It might not look like there is a lot going on this week, but that’s not the case! — a lot of the events going on this week are just in another issue. Let me explain…
I published a special SPOOKY edition this past Thursday to highlight all of the best Halloween events that are coming up this week (there are so many, I decided to keep them separate from the main issue!) It’s in your inbox now (search “What’s Up Elk”) or you can read it here.
🍝 I mentioned this to you last week, but I wanted to remind you that the Strength for Sarah Spaghetti Dinner Benefit is today — Sunday, October 27 — at 1 PM. Tickets are $20. You can find all the details here or by reading the complete write-up in What’s Up Elk’s last issue.
If you can’t make it or if you’re reading this later in the week, you can still support Sarah in the following ways:

Make a donation to her daughter’s account at ABC Daycare.

✨ There will be some days off from school coming up in November and luckily you have some options as to where to send your students on those days.
The Ridgway YMCA is offering their No School Days program for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 on November 8, 11 and 27. The program — which offers crafts, games, movies and swimming— runs from 6:30 AM-4:30 PM. The cost is $25/child (members) or $35/child (non-members). You can pre-register (contact the YMCA), but day-of registration is allowed.

🥳👩💻 Girls in grades 4 through 8 at ECC or the SMASD will be able to attend “No School Discover Day: Girls Just Want to Have Fun” on Friday, November 15. Kids can go for part of the day (AM is 8-11 AM; PM is 12 PM-3 PM) for $10 or the whole day for $20.
