🐻🫎 Feeling a little creative? There’s going to be a WORKSHOP on October 19 at 1 PM where you will be able to create your own piece of wildlife art. The best part? NO artistic talent is required! 🔴 Are you a hunter, gatherer, canner or foodie who wants to make sure you know the basics of food preservation? Well, you’re in luck because The Ridgway-Elk Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Penn State Extension, is presenting HOME FOOD PRESERVATION: WILD GAME on October 10 from 6-8 PM at Awakening Alliance Church. This series will provide you with the scientific background, preparation tips, and safe processing methods to preserve food at home, especially when it comes to preserving the fruits of your hunt. 🌷Just a heads up: THE 3 BREASTKETEERS ANNUAL DICE RUN is next Sunday, September 29 at 11:30 AM. There will be a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle at Wildwoods Bar and Grill, which is where the event starts and ends. The money that is raised will go towards buying gas cards for local cancer patients. The cost is $10/person. 📍875 Washington Road, St. Marys

👻 Create a TEA CUP GHOST with Katie T Crafts at The Creative Cup at 5:30 PM. The cost — which includes everything for the project, plus a cup of hot tea or coffee — is $35/person. Pre-registration and payment is required. 📍239 Main Street, Ridgway

🗳️Kim Frye, director of Elk County elections and voter registration, will be at the St. Marys Public Library for a Non-Partisan ELECTION DAY VOTER GUIDE at 6 PM.

WEDNESDAY (9/25)

🌌🫎 Have you ever wondered what happens after the sun sets and the crowds go away in Pennsylvania’s Elk Country? You’ll find out at the ELK COUNTRY AFTER DARK EXPERIENCE, happening at 7 PM tonight and tomorrow night (9/25 and 9/26) at the Elk Country Visitor Center. The highlight of the evening happens at the trail head areas where you will be able to sit back and relax, all while taking in the sounds and the wonder of Elk Country after dark. 📖 There are currently a few seats open in the Thursday morning (10:15 AM) MONTHLY BOOK CLUB at the Ridgway Public Library (the Wednesday class is fully booked so hurry if this is something that you’re interested in.) This month’s book is The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Bandanna. To sign up, stop by the circulation desk to fill out a registration form. 🐐🧘 Are you into both yoga and goat cuddles? (Admittedly, an oddly specific combination). If so, join Cheryl at Apple Blossom Farm for GOAT YOGA (6 PM) where there will be time throughout the class to snuggle with the mama and baby goats in the field. 💛 Want to support a good cause and have fun while doing so? Head to the Johnsonburg Community Center for a BINGO NIGHT (doors open at 5:30 PM, the event starts at 6:30 PM). Tickets are $30/adult and the money raised will go toward Strides4CJD. There will also be raffles and door prizes — plus, food and fun for the whole family. 📍600 Market Street, Johnsonburg

SATURDAY (9/28)

Ridgway is going to be bizz-zay!

🍂 The Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the FLAVORS OF FALL FESTIVAL on Saturday from 9 AM-3 PM in downtown Ridgway. There will be:

  • Vendors

  • 🚗 A Car Cruise In: If you have a ride that you love, come show it off (there are no registration or fees). Come and go as you please!

  • Wagon Rides (11 AM-1 PM)

  • 🏛️ Bicentennial Historic Tour (11 AM - 2 PM): Tickets are $20/person and can be purchased at the Welcome Center until 11 AM. —📍Properties include the St. Leo’s Rectory, The School House, The Robinson House and Elk County Historical Society, the ‘Ole Schoolhouse’ (Walnut Street) and Bonifels.

🏈 📖 🌟 READING UNDER THE LIGHTS: “GLOW READ A BOOK” is on September 25 from 6-8 PM at the St. Marys High School’s Dutch Country Stadium. Any student within the District is invited to bring a blanket and their favorite book to read under the bright lights. There will be guest readers, free books and a series of glow-related activities.

🏐 There is a VOLLEYBALL CLUB forming at the Ridgway YMCA where kids in 5th and 6th grade will learn the basics of the game. It will meet from 4:30-6:00 PM on Wednesdays from October 1-March 26, 2025. The cost is $20/month (members) or $30/month (non-members). You can find the registration form here.

😎 Don’t wait until the last minute to secure care for your children on their days off from school this fall and winter. There are currently two programs to consider for your littles ⬇️

  • Take advantage of the NO SCHOOL DISCOVER DAYS that are being offered to kids in grades 6-8 by the Community Education Center. The theme of the day (8:00 AM - 3:00 PM) is “Newton’s Laws: Where Force Meets Fun!” Participants will explore the laws behind motion with challenges and gravity games and by building a balloon powered car.

    • October 14, 2024 (Johnsonburg Area School District) at the Johnsonburg Community Center 📍600 Market Street, Johnsonburg

    • October 25, 2024 (Ridgway Area School District) at the Ridgway Public Library 📍329 Center Street, Ridgway

  • The Ridgway YMCA is offering a series of NO SCHOOL DAYS for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. The program — which offers crafts, games, movies and swimming— runs from 6:30 AM-4:30 PM. The cost is $25/child (members) or $35/child (non-members). You can find the registration form here, but day-of registration is allowed.
